So, for those of you who haven't tried out Blade and Soul yet, here are some of my first impressions.

In case you haven't noticed in the many posts by other members, the server que is...quite long.  Like, 2000 in the early afternoon, 5000 in the evening, and that's on the LESS POPULATED servers.  They really should have made more servers or made the servers larger, they were clearly unprepared for this.  Enough about that though, onto the actual game.

First off, the story...is a complete joke.  Not that the idea is bad, or that the characters are terribly designed, but the writing is really cliche, the animation is clunky, and as is typical with MMOs, the voice acting is TERRIBLE.  I almost laughed at some of the cutscenes for how ridiculous some of them looked.  Which is somewhat of a shame, since the graphics and art style aren't actually half bad.

In fact, while the graphics are a bit fuzzy, the scenery is pretty nice.   It feels a bit too busy to me, with the constant moving NPCs and the numerous players, but it looks nice.

As for controls, there are aspects I do and don't like.  The controls work like Smite's do, you move with WASD, you perform normal attacks by clicking the mouse button, and you perform skills by pressing the number keys.  The unfortunate thing is that for some reason they decided they needed a lockon system, and your attacks only occur in an enemy is "in range", instead of being able to attack freely.  Other than that, there's nothing unique about the skill system that really is worth mentioning.

However, one thing it does have going for it is the movement system.  This is one of the few MMOs I know where you can dash, and it works WONDERFULLY.  You really do move fast, and have surprisingly good control.  You can also dash into a jump or just jump normally, which has pretty good height for an MMO, and you travel fairly far.  This game even allows gliding, which is pretty fun.  So far there haven't been many areas with great uses for the glide, but I'm hoping there will be more as it goes on.

The music isn't bad either, though honestly I haven't played an MMO in a long time that didn't, so I'm not sure that's much of a plus.

In the end, while I didn't regret trying it out, it doesn't really have my full attention.  It plays like an inferior Smite, with worse controls, a pretty basic and boring story, and with the major wait on top of that, it can be a bit much.  That being said, there is most certainly joy to be found in this game, and I'm sure many people on this forum will enjoy it.  A martial arts MMO is not that common to my understanding.   I can't really say I've loved it though.

First Impressions: 6.5/10

Martial arts mmo are far to common these days actually.

Also, what were you playing on settings wise?

They are going to be adding in more servers and an AFK kick timer in the next 2 days, which should reduce the server queue and over population greatly. Right now, I think the game is only worth to play if you are a premium member, because you are able to skip the queue without any problems. I've never had to wait once. If you aren't prepared to spend the money then I think it's best to wait for the AFK timer and other servers to be added into the game so it helps your experience.

I'm yet to play an MMO with a good story and cutscenes. Honestly compared to other MMO's out there this one isn't too bad. I don't mind the general idea behind it.

Have you switched to classic mode? You can change the mode in settings/options to "classic" mode, which allows you to play the game like every other MMO out there. Switching to classic mode makes the game more of a point and click mmo.

My first impression of the game so far:

So far I'm actually loving the game. Questing is fun, and I haven't had this much fun with an MMO since Dragon Ball Online. The only problem I have with the game so far is I wish they made classes more unique from each other, with proper tank/heal/support classes. On the plus side all the classes so far seem to be pretty balanced but they just don't feel that different.

Ah, didn't know that.  Yeah, the wait time was one of my biggest problems, so I'm glad they're at least doing something for it.

While normally I would agree with you, it's been awhile since I've seen something...this bad.  It's trying so hard to be serious and dramatic, when everything is so lackluster.  Hell, it starts out introducing you to some interesting character, then literally kills them off in 5 minutes, before you even get to know anybody.

Even games with a more lackluster plot had something enjoyable about them, or weren't plot-focused.  Elsword for example, was more focused on being a fun combat game.  Guild Wars 2 gave you interesting choices that impacted the story you received, and the better graphics helped.  But this was just all around awful for me.

I'll have to try that out.  Normally I prefer normal controls, it just felt a bit clunky to me.  It wasn't terrible, but I've played better, like Smite for example.

Keep in mind, this is just a first impression, so my opinion could change over time.

So basically, they say "make whatever you want" then ban you when you do?

Luke, is spot on, support told me my character was racist banned me.

In all seriousness, I use a VPN service to increase my ping to the servers in Dallas (I am from Australia), which reduces my ping from 350 to 160. They banned me for this reason.

Well played, Dumke. Well played.

But that seriously sucks, either way. You're not able to make an appeal or anything?

i dont remember this part in the other version i played (either HK or CN i forgot)
but if grinding quests are not your cup of tea just do the main quest, as i recall everything is relatively easy till you get to the big cities with out the worry of being underleveled (in some areas once you hit the beach your pretty much gonna need to party up at that point)

Edit:I may be derping but your talking about the tutorial thats mostly there to tell you the story and how to play right?

Ah, didn't know that.  Yeah, the wait time was one of my biggest problems, so I'm glad they're at least doing something for it.
Yeah, I guess they didn't predict how popular the game would be. The servers are currently undergoing maintenance now to add in the extra servers, so hopefully it will help!

Yeah that is a problem I noticed with characters not staying for long, but I don't expect much from story elements when it comes to MMO's because most of them give me that same feeling so I go into them more with an open mind. I didn't mind the start of this one I do like the whole revenge and the death of your master, I found that was an interesting way to open the game. I did give them feedback on how to improve the story in one of the in game surveys, so just do that and tell them how you really feel about the storyline and hopefully they will listen to the feedback.

I've played MMO's like age of wushu and oh boy was that terrible.

No but srriously, more "go here, kill x mobs" " go there fetch herbs"

Nice, but quick question isn't that what you do in most MMO's out there? DBO was no different srriously.....

Well for sure this is first game which i play where 90% characters = female, game is full of ppl with transvestite symptome and lolicons.
Anyway game as game is a good game, don't forget that the game is from 2012 if i'm not wrong, and now look at games from last years shit, stones, wood - full description.
We don't have actualy nothing better than BS to play even after these years (in EU for sure) What this mean? Thats mean developers are retarded they are not able to develop efficiently...

ps. the ppl who cry about BS quests and they do same quests in DBO they are retarded for sure, how developers can progress when they have retarded players like this one? They become retarded too.

Guide for beginners, if you write post against/about me you can't miss and forget about:
Broken english - this is very very important, next is troll and trying to act like an anime character from avatar/signature, etc... We can't also forget to add about keyboard warrior with 100% dodge and p*ssy in real life, without life, you know.

I haven't played much since I've been busy but I'm liking it a lot so far. The combo-based combat feels great (way better than TERA's) and the fact that I have to sorta aim at my enemy makes it even harder than just clicking on it or hitting the tab key to target and just spam skills that will always land (unless the target has dodge rate or stuff like that, of course).

About the story... You're right, seems like it's not that great. I read somewhere that the Western versions of the game got the Asian ones censored, changing a lot of the story but I don't really know how the original version would go.

Graphics, I can't really review on that. My laptop sucks and I can't run it on good quality. :P

Quests... All MMORPGs have this system. Guild Wars 2 is one of the few that proves to be sorta different when it comes to quests, but I do think that Blade & Soul could've tried something new and more innovative.

Before reviewing it so harshly, remember the game's an e-sport and most of it is based on the high-level play, like most MMORPGs. Also, the game was originally released in 2012 or 2013... It's not a new game so it probably keeps a lot of old aspects of the game from back when it started.

See, it so much that I thought it was a bad game.  Keep in mind it was a 6.5, meaning it was 65% positive, 35% negative, and some of the negative issues I mentioned being fixable.

For me, it was more of the potential I feel the game had.  I was actually looking forward to the story before they threw some dumb things, and that really disappointed me.  And like I said, the fact that I had played another game with a nearly identical combat system that was far superior didn't help either.  It's not that I think it's a bad game, it's that it could have been AMAZING.  And so far, it's not hitting that level for me.

Well, playing the game game on 10-13(tops) fps isn't much of an impression to begin with, but here i go.

I TRIED to play for a while, and i failed. I loved the dash feature and the kinda jump and almost fly thingy (i found it similar to Aura kingdom's imo), i didn't progress too much though. The combat didn't actually got me very engaged as i couldn't see what i was doing.
(That thing aside the best one i have tried is TERA's gameplay which i loved)

So as a first impression for me is to more or less not play it again, until i upgrade my computer that is.
