engine could be put to more efficient and less lag using server instead of the engine cry engine 2 in time the cry engine 3? this would reduce the lag when the game online, but the video quality would be lost historia¿se can do this? if you could put this as the engine used in the game ArcheAge (CryEngine 3)in dbor?

engine ArcheAge
2009, formalized its MMORPG ArcheAge XLGames (formerly known as Project X2), originally used CryENGINE 2 Game development began in 2006, and in 2007 acquired the license XLGames CryENGINE 2 The first closed beta took place in June 2010 in South Korea. Another beta was conducted in late 2010 Since the end of 2012, took place in May closed betas. Ultimately, the game has been modified to use CryENGINE 3, an engine that has evolved to better meet the needs of a MMORPG. However, the use of CryENGINE 3 in ArcheAge is limited to the animations, graphics and physical, some sub-systems elements continue using CryENGINE 2. :)

Why would dbor need cryengine? Its only used for the client.

MajinMusic is asking if it is possible to use cryengine3 for "remake" (i guess) the videos of DBO, he said that this could reduce the lag...

...it ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward...

It wouldn't be practical to switch the engine. They'd literally have to redo everything from scratch.

Also, I assume the "Cryengine" is referring to the engine used by either FarCry or Crysis (or both, I don't really know).

"I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to Death, Nor known to Life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works."

Two different replies for two different threads on the same topic. One is in spanish and the other one is in english.

Alright so let's see what he's saying for some that don't understand the chopped english. He's asking if the Devs can use CryEngine to render every single cutscene from the game, because the current DBO engine puts alot of stress in the server's bandwidth whenever its doing that since it plays the videos.

He then goes on an example about ArcheAge saying that ArcheAge only uses CryEngine 3 for the cutscenes, and the rest of the game is on a different engine.

Now, the answers for this: no no no no.

Lets first debunk the ArcheAge example: ArcheAge was initially developed in CryEngine 2, an engine created by Crytek (By now, all the "Cry" might make you think of Crysis. Yes, Crytek developed Crysis and its made in CryEngine). BUT during development, they moved into CryEngine 3. Somehow, Majin thinks that they only use CryEngine 3 for the cutscenes, which is, as you may guess, completely wrong. The game is almost completely done in CryEngine 3. Animations, graphics, physics, you name it. It inherited very few CryEngine 2 subclasses, which is completely fine since both engines are made by the same dev, they're similar, just different versions and hence they can do that.

Now DBO's engine is not the same or in any way similar to CryEngine. And trying to render things in CryEngine while on the other engine (Which I doubt extremely that its possible), it would imply opening two different applications, blowing up some weak computers.

Im not sure where he got this idea that CryEngine 3 would also optimize cutscenes. I do suppose that pre-rendered cutscenes might help and not a video (I don't know exactly if DBO really uses videos like he says or pre-rendered stuff), but yeah, CryEngine and DBO? I doubt they're compatible at all. It would take an extreme buttload of work. Devs would have to modify CryEngine for it to run graphics similar to DBO, since CryEngine is aimed for realistic environments, not phong graphics or cel-shaded graphics.

Anyways, someone can correct me if im wrong.
