I know maybe this is none of my business  but how will you pay for the server? Can't  depend on donations, that would be impossible. Is the server free? I'm just asking because what's the point of hosting server if you can't pay for it. I would donate some money but I'm not even working yet. This really concerns me, this is why I ask.

Why shouldn't it be possible to run DBOR on donations?
It will be unique. People are forced to donate in order to be able to keep playing, and i bet they'll do.
There's no other MMO like this, so it cannot just replaced easily by smth else.
The fact that the DBOR teams don't make the server files public is even more benefitial.
DBO players are also willing to pay as we saw, though this time won't be any rewards for that I guess.

if people are forced to donate to keep the server running is that not simply a monthly subscription under different words?

Well isn't it like it with other game servers as well? They gotta pay the bills from something, so of course the servers will shutdown at the point that not enough ppl donating anymore. MMOs have cash shops or monthly subscription but i believe both is illegal for this project.
So you guys have better ideas than this?

I will gladly donate when I got some money left to keep the servers up, don't see any problem with it.

So you think the team should pay for it out of their own pocket without any way to profit off of the game? Right....

Well there should be way that team earn cash from server but not game.
Plus cash from this website. Donations could only help in 50%.
I am sure people won't donate every month.

Other people can donate, but I won't, not until I have game. Look at all those sad folks who funded the Oculus Rift just to have it bought out by Facebook and losing Notch's support.

Lol obviously. There's no reason to donate at the moment, once the server is running, that's when the will need help. I  hope this doesn't become a problem :/.

We will be relying on Donations to keep us afloat.

We're not asking for donations, or rather i'm not asking for donations, right now because we don't have the money going anywhere and i personally find that as a waste.
I'm planning to setup donations, near 1 month prior to release. that way, if we get a good amount before we even release we are sorted for a few months after release.

and that would help alot.
When we do start, all financial figures will be public, so you can see what is being made, what is being spent, how it's being spent.

It's not a monthly fee, as not everyone has to donate, if at least 20-30 people donate $10, that should cover most expenses.
But those who donate will receive benefits, we haven't yet decided, as it's not that important as of yet.
(I.e will be important when we're making launch preparations)

Projects based and ran off donations are quite popular and common these days, take kick starter for example.

I think if the donation system could perhaps have a target per month or per 3 months to cover the server costs.

Something like patreon could work well imo, where people donate money to reach certain goals. For example

$500 - keep dbor online for another month
$1000 - new event
$2000 - increase lvl cap

I guess kickstarter could also achieve this, as long as we have a way to keep the game online without the team having to worry about server costs etc.

I'm thinking long term now but this kind of system could also be used to pay a game developer to create a new TMQ, CC bosses, UD's, skills, dogi's etc etc

We wouldn't be able to legally hire someone, considering they'd need a legal pay and the like.
this being non for profit as well, we cannot ensure this.

Kickstarter is out of the question, but crowd funding is always there. which this project basically is.

Also how many people have that gohan in their signature?

Not legally hire but a contract to do a specific task could be possible, not to employ someone as part of the team (receive a salary).

As long as there is a viable way to donate to the project, that's fine by me.

idk how many use that pic, I just did the sig in about 15mins so that I would have something.

They didn`t put donation center yet for a simple reason, without game people will think its scam and not donate anything so its pointless at the moment.
And im 90% sure donations will be enough to run server, as dumke said if 20-30 people donate only 10$ that would be good, there are way more people willing to donate and not 10$ but way more:)

The way you said your last message implied you meant hire a professional to do some development to wards the server.
That's why i wrote what i did.

Contracting someone to develop for something usually will end badly, especially in this situation as if it goes bust, we will most likely have to hire him again to fix his mistakes.

I usually use signatures as a way to know who i'm responding too, in the quickreply button, but i honestly didn't know who you were from just looking at the signature, since i've seen alot them.
